In June, 2026, the students of the Environmental Sustainability and Climate Science (ESCS) department visited several biosphere reserves, such as the "Baiboosun Nature Reserve" Center and Ak-Bulun Eco Swan Conservation Public Reserve in Issyk-Kul region. The purpose of the field study was to familiarize students with the biodiversity of the Issyk-Kul region and its unique nature. Another purpose of the field study was to help students identify and select topics for future research.Ìý
During the field trip, the students studied the formation of the rocks, landscapes and soil, as well as the use of camera traps for capturing wild animals. In addition, the students had the opportunity to visually see the ecosystems of natural territories that are protected by the government, and also migration corridors of wild birds such as ducks, cranes, etc. Hence, the students learned from local experts working in biosphere reserves about current environmental programs, policies, and measures to conserve biodiversity in the Issyk-Kul region.ÌýÌý

Student’s impressions:Ìý
The trip was very interesting and full of memorable experiences. We learned many new things, explored the beautiful nature of Issyk-Kul, and had a great time together. I also met new people and made friends with whom we shared lots of fun moments throughout the journey. This was my first trip with the ESCS department, but I know that ESCS students often take part in similar field trips, and I would be happy to join them again in the future. I really enjoyed the experience and I am very glad that I decided to go. Boobekova Saliya, ESCS-2025.Ìý

I really enjoyed the trip around Issyk-Kul lake. The trip was very beneficial in the means of getting more information about the biodiversity of the Issyk-Kul region and it involved short reports about the characteristics of each destination. The Ak-Sai Canyons and their panoramic views were especially impressive. Thus, the field trip gave me valuable additional information that helps me prioritize my future research areas. Overall, the trip atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. I'd be happy to go on such a trip again! Kolosova Taisiya, ESCS-2025.Ìý
